I Hate Guys Who Hit Women

acpguy thinks this is perfectly okay on the flimsy pretext of self-defense and having the responsibility to protect ourselves from violence against us. Apart from the very dubious likelihood of suddenly being attacked by a horde of rabid, raging, homicidal Amazon warriors, what do the rest of you think of this peculiar view?

If you legitimately feel threatened, you should defend yourself with proportionate force. And if you're physically far more powerful than your opponent, you should probably moderate your response. I don't think gender really plays into this.

I'm not going to let a child beat me up either, but I'm not going to fracture their skull in return, you know?

Well now you got me thinking of rabid, raging, homicidal Amazonian warriors and to say the least, I'm excited to live that scenario out. DEATH BY SNOO-SNOO! But to answer your question seriously, I don't think it's right to hit a woman even if they are hitting you. Men biologically can generate much more force given their bone density and strength on average, but now if I'm being hit/stabbed/etc. etc. I will restrain her if she is causing me serious harm. Either way, it is always better to just walk away and remove yourself from the situation and cut that person out of your life.

@QuixoticSoul By restrain, I meant along the lines of throws, holds, and take-downs. Full on striking is just where I draw the line. I generally don't like hitting people in general and would rather rely on using their body weight against them or wrestling. So that's personal preference and all I'm good at anyways. Besides striking someone holding a knife is just not a good idea unless you're a kickboxer anyways.

As you've said in your post, I'll use the appropriate amount of force but there other ways to defend yourself without striking is pretty much what I'm getting at.

@ChimerIX In the real world, takedowns and throws are often more damaging than punching lmao - pavement hurts.

Anyway, if you're being stabbed, that's a time for maximum response, whatever that is - and that depends on your skillset, if wrestling is your thing then go for it. But no matter what you're doing you have to adjust things, because a lot of things are liable to get you stabbed (including by accident), whether grappling or striking.

I think bringing deadly force into this conversation clouds the water tbh - at that threat level consideration of gender are right out. Knives are bad news.

Proportionate response to deadly force is basically anything - including deadly force.

@QuixoticSoul Yes, yes it does hurt like a mother. Admittedly, if you're a novice and just scoop someone as they like to say then yeah, you're going to crack their skull open or at least leave them convulsing upon the ground but that can also happen from hitting someone who isn't used to being hit either. I've seen some nasty street fights where someone picks the wrong fight and one hit to the head, they go into a fit of shakes and have God knows what kind of brain damage. It happens all the time.

That being said, I don't disagree with you or your post. I was raised not to hit a woman, it's a programming one cannot easily break and I have no desire to, no matter what but to still defend myself which is contradictory but wrestling I find is an even ground. You're right though when deadly force is involved it becomes a whole other ball game but in that type of situation the best idea is to hit the ground running. As they say, no one wins in a knife fight.

My main point is though, if a small woman comes at me swinging, I'm not going to deck her or choke her out like I would a full grown man, ya know? Now, if she's an Amazonian death machine, I'm going to sweep the legs and run hahaha.

I think it depends on the situation and the severity of the attack.

Hand to hand or a scuffle and I will restrain her.

However, if she's wielding a weapon and intent on killing me then I'm sorry but I'm knocking her out.

Women are not special or magical with the inherent right to escape the consequences of their actions.

@tropicaltiger Oh, that's a totally different kettle of fish... Pre-emptive strikes are NOT self defence.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
even if she's some violent lunatic, I'll only go so far as restraining her; never actual strikes/slaps/hits

few things will set me off quicker than some guy hitting a gal in the face with enough force to cause injury/bruising, and I'll gladly pummel the guys face into the ground as a consequence...
I blocked whoever that is so clearly he was on my idiot radar at some point.

@tropicaltiger yes, i would not slap a giant icelandic viking man across the face expecting him to "be the bigger person and walk away" as that would be retarded, do you think he would walk away becuz hes bigger and stronger or would he rip me in half? lol i am his equal after all..

besides.. if you restrain them your an automatic rapist
