I Almost Set My Kitchen On Fire

One night when I was still living with my parents and was still a novice cook, I was deep-frying something and got a little carried away with the amount of oil I put in the pot I was using. It spilled over as I was frying and caused a rather sizable fire on the stovetop. 😱 Luckily my dad was there to put it out by sprinkling salt over it, as I was filling up a cup of water in the sink to douse it. I learned afterward that throwing water on a stovetop fire is the worst thing you could do. 😬 My mom let me have a good earful for that one and didn't let me deep-fry anything in her home again. Yeah, I learned a valuable lesson that day, lol.

You were lucky. We learned about fires in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Baking soda is a good emergency kitchen fire fighting substance, as is salt.
