I Hate Losing Friends

Whether it's from drifting apart, them leaving or them proving to be sorry sacks of shit. I feel it happens more often with me than it should with anyone. I've always questioned why I even bother trying to make friends and honestly, I have no idea. I just never learn. Sometimes I wish I never made any friends at all. The idea of just keeping to myself and never being hurt by all the friendships I've lost just sounds that good. If I were given to the option to go back in time and start over like that, I might just have to seriously consider it. But obviously I can't so, yeah.

Most people you'll meet in life are like ships in the night.. For a while you tie up together in the middle of a dark and restless sea, shining brighter together than you ever can alone... Then the currents turn and you drift on...

@ozgirl512 This is so true. Sad. But true.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 I don't think it is sad... When you find the right ship you let go the anchors... Those who should be found shine brightly on that wine dark sea... And with apologies to Homer ;)

@ozgirl512 I love the way you look at it. 🤗
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 this may sound simplistic, but I think the way you look at things in life can make a huge difference ... Hugs
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512 Oh it absolutely does.

Although I'd like to think that *some* people are permanent fixtures in my life, your "two ships" analogy is perfect.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 I wouldn't have it any other I think... Freedom to roam and find your safe port .
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512 [c=#BF0000]A ship in port is safe, but that is not what ships are built for...[/c] 🙂
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 true... Give me a tall ship and a star to guide her ..
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512 Yup. Love that!
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 ... All very romantic :)
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512 For those of us in love with the sea, yes.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 and the sea is a perfect metaphor for life.. Constantly changing and always with the ability to surprise and delight
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512 More than a metaphor for me, but yes, I understand.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 I understand that better now... Just read your bio :)
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512 I've been sailing Nantucket Sound since before I could walk. That's what I was referring to.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 that does sound good... It's funny, coming from the other side of the world I out one Nantucket from reading... What Springs to mind is "call me Ishmael" and other whaling stories....
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512 Lol, well yes, Nantucket was an old whaling port. It's actually an island southeast of Massachusetts where I live. It's about a 3-4 hour sail, just over the horizon. 🙂. And the water between Massachusetts and Nantucket is called Nantucket Sound.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 those whalers used to stop in down here way back when.. And if my memory serves me well wasn't Joshua Slocum, from Nantucket?
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512
[b]Joshua Slocum was the first man to sail single-handedly around the world. He was a Nova Scotian-born, naturalised American seaman and adventurer, and a noted writer. In 1900 he wrote a book about his journey, Sailing Alone Around the World, which became an international best-seller.

@sarabee1995 only a few thousand one off lol 🤣
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512 I just read his whole wiki article thinking maybe he made a home later in life at Nantucket. The closest he got (at least in the article) was Boston or Fairhaven (where he built his boat).
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 my mistake ...
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512 Not really. He was all around Nantucket in every direction. Nova Scotia, Boston, Fairhaven, Newport, New York. So clearly he was through there during his voyages.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 quite a feat for those days
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@ozgirl512 Yeah, no kidding. And around the world solo back then!! So cool.
