I've Been Thinking

I never thought I'd be 24 still living at my parents house. I never thought that I wouldn't be able to start college like I had planned at 17 due to financial problems. I never thought I'd be in college at 24. I never thought all of my "friends" would abandon me. I never thought this would be my life.

Yeah life has a way of doing that. We have dreams and thoughts about how we want things to turn out but unless you are independently wealthy, so many things can change the direction of your plans.
I never thought I would be in the life situation that I am in now either - but I am. You just have to constantly keep steering your life back to the route that you want as best as you can.
The most important thing to keep in mind is to never give up on whatever it is that makes you happy. Keep pursuing it. The people that give up are the ones that are the most unhappy in life.

@iamnikki: you are lucky that you can still have the chance to go to school. Believe me - once you start your adult life working, having relationship(s), paying rent and bills, it is not easy to have time to learn.
An education is the BEST gift you can give yourself. Learn as much as you can for as long as you can. The reward will be completely worth it no matter how long or how old you are.

@DanGerUs: I sure hope you're right. And I do work and pay bills, buy groceries and things, so I'm not just mooching off of parents.

@iamnikki: thats good too though. it's much better and more rewarding to work for things than to have things handed to you. You appreciate things more that way.

I have these "never" thoughts quite a bit lately as well. But I have to say I wouldn't have it any other way :) I guess in a sense have to embrace what your left with in order to overcome it. Good luck:)
Yeah life is filled with a lot of those "I never thought" moments. All you can do now though is look forward not backwards.

Right. It kinda makes me want to be a counselor to help other folks my age and teens.

@iamnikki: that may be the silver lining for how things have turned out and THAT could be what makes it all worth it.

Congrats on keeping at it! Yeah you are a little older than your school peers but more experienced for it! Good work.

I wasn't looking for a "congrats" trust me. I'm just looking for people going through the same experience. I have no reason to be congratulated.

But you're in college now and moving forward in life. You will finish and start your career in time. Don't sweat the numbers. 😌

@iamnikki: Do you not go out at all now? Or date? School alone does not prevent these things.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@sarabee1995: nope. i don't have people to hang out with and guys my age do not talk to me.

@iamnikki: Okay so I keep a pretty small circle irl also. I think most of us here on EP/SW are introverts to some degree. It's sorta why we're here, right? But we have to get out in the real world too.

Lol, of course I say all this and I hardly go out myself and haven't had a decent relationship in a year and a half.

That sounds really grim, sorry you're having to endure it. Sadly, friends come and go, from my experience: right through life, there are very few that will remain for more than 5 or 6 years.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@firefall: Thanks

this prolly wont really help, but ... life is erratic, life doesn't actually obey the signposts of 'how it's meant to go'. Most everyone veers off from that idealised path, at some point (or more than one).
iamnikki · 31-35, F
Yes, that is true
Shit happens and things never go our way sorry to hear that I'm struggling that I'm 26 yrs old and still in the home of the motherfuckers that brought me into this world who I fucken hate with a passion I wish they were dead

The key is to never give up.Its never too late.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
I haven't yet. One year left. Feel suffocated though
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
I never thought that I would be able to move out before I was 19 years old. And I'm not.
