I Am Open to New Ideas and Experiences

Just been thinking; addictions aren't really a problem if no one is suffering. If no one is being affected by it, is it really a problem?

I have a friend who drinks a lot, as in everyday. However, he doesn't have any qualms about it. It doesn't have any negative impacts to his relationships with other, and doesn't affect his professional life. I tease him and call him an alcoholic, but that's just something between him and I. He also is a pleasant person to be around when he's intoxicated.

Addiction is classified as a psychological disorder. However, the basis of what a disorder is; it has to cause the afflicted person some sort of distress.

So, if he isn't bothered by his dependency, is it even an addiction, or disorder? Is it even a problem? This can be applied to other forms of addiction... just a random thought I had 🤷🏽‍♀️

The problem would be that he's building up his tolerance level, and it will take more and more alcohol to get to the feeling that he's having. It will eventually be a problem, i think.
