Why am I like this? 😂 Has something similar ever happened to you?

Lol I suck at conversations. I said "thank you" like 4 times to my host before leaving because I felt awkward and my mind was blank. In my mind the words were "goodbye have a nice day" 😭 but only "thank you so much for inviting us" would come out...ugh... and then I thanked their daughter like 3 times AS WELLLLL...

Aaarrrgghhh it was so awkward heeellllppppp!!!!

Guests should never be nervous...that's the job of your host. They are NOT thinking about whether or not you are socially awkward. They are thinking, "Oh, thank God she enjoyed herself...I hope the hors d'oeuvres were okay...gosh look at the mess..."

If you are a guest in a casual situation, always offer to help clean up. If it is more formal, compliment the host or hostess on the food or whatever you particularly liked. They love that sort of feedback.

Yeah. Like my brain gets stuck and I can only repeat the same thing over and over again. It's definitely a social anxiety thing for me lol

edit to add they probably didn't give it a second thought though so don't worry!

@assemblingaknob I don't know. I just try to remind myself that they'll soon forget all about it because I never remember when other people are being awkward. Even thinking about it now I can't come up with a single example. Obviously you can practice and become more articulate through exposure but training yourself to accept that everyone has embarrassing, awkward moments and not build it up in your head is more important.
