I Have a Question

Has anyone ever donated bone marrow and whats involved? My college is having a bone marrow drive next tuesday. I dont usually go to the college on tuesdays but i thought of going just for that and making an extra trip. i heard you have to be under 60 which i am, what are the other requirements and what can stop you from donating? i have two hip implants so theyre not going to be able to get it from my hips but i heard they can get it from somewhere else. Im pretty healthy otherwize, is it true they fly you out? and do you get to meet who you donate to? ive never done this before and this is the first time in my life ive known of anyone doing a bone marrow drive. if im healthy how likely is it that they will use me?

Im curious to see if id be a match for anyone. if i sign up how long do you think it would be till they called me? and how many times can a person do this? im not afraid of needles and it wouldnt be my first time in a hospital. just curious about all this since ive never done it before. and what if i got a job, would the job let me take some time off to do it? and who pays the hospital bill? im on medicaid but i dont know if they would cover that. is it true they fly you out? im out of work so i might not have the money to fly out but would be willing to donate.

In the UK you have to be under 40 (I believe), it was advertised as being a 'uncomfortable' but I spoke to somebody who had done it and he said the only thing he felt was a feeling of downward pressure on his sternum.

I did it once. They took a blood sample and then logged in my blood type etc... and put me on a log in case I was a match with someone.

But I have never been called.
What you are doing is beautiful... well done Pearl. I honestly don't know how it is ... never done it before.

👏👏👏👏❤️❤️
