I Have a Question

I have to have a colostomy cause of a home test turning out positive. what are the chances its cancer? i have to wait till they call me about it cause they have to approve it with medicaid first. and what are those tests like?
Do you mean colonoscopy or colostomy? Very different procedures.

I think you mean colonoscopy.

.They are a piece of cake, if it’s done the way I’ve experienced. They give you ‘twilight sedation’ So you’re not really OUT, but you’re not conscious either.

I do not remember the procedure at all. My brother requested to stay awake so he could watch the screen the camera was projecting images on - said it was not at all troubling.

Only - after - they pump a good bit of air into you and afterward it had to go somewhere. Recovery from colonscopies (usually a number of beds with curtains between...sounds like a fart symphony.

@Mamapolo2016 Yea huge difference colonoscopy or colostomy
I was wondering what nut schedules a colostomy from some home test
I have had 2 colonoscopy since 50 ,they have removed 6 pollips and a huge cyst
So yea ,I am glad I was out of it
I get pain blocks and such a lot ,,that stuff they use is awesome
I am a big man ,they need me to move me and get in positions for injections
But I never remember it .
Though I did fire a doctor up one time ,,I come around to him ranting a raving
The nurses assured me he caused whatever happened
I think I was about to kick his butt

You will be okay. Yeah, insurance has to approve it first.
Then you have to take the god awful, nasty, disgusting lime aid koolaid the day before. OMG, it's nasty. People say you drink it.....nope.......you gag it down.

But it works. You have to drink a gallon of the stuff. But I recently read that they came out with a new alternative that is only a quart that you have to drink but I don't recall the name.

But everything everyone has said is right. I have had 3 and 2 of them were done while I was awake. But your first one should be done asleep. But it was fun watching it on the monitor and talking to the staff about football and the beach and Playstation video games.

You need to find a ride home afterwards. If you don't have a ride, ask them for a medical taxi.

Ask them for pictures of your colon.......it's interesting if you have never seen it.

Ask them for a morning appointment. You can't eat from noon, the day before and if you get it done in the morning you can get it over with and eat lunch.

When I had my second one it was at 3 in the afternoon and I had been about 36 hours since I had eaten and I thought I was going to starve.......omg.

Get it done early in the morning.......you'll thank me for it.

Don't worry about the home test......it could be a lack of protein in your diet, dehydration.......lots of things.

Hang in there.

It's not that bad. You'll have to drink about a gallon of colon cleaner though, it tastes pretty nasty..
You'll be back and forth to the toilet until it runs clear..
You won't eat for at least a day before the procedure..
Then they'll slip the magic wand up your but, have a look at things and that will be it.
If they see anything they dont like, they may biopsy it..
It wont hurt though..
I hope everything works out for you. Try not to worry.

I found the new drug..........ask them about it.........it has to be better than the nasty lime stuff.

------

Called Plenvu, this liquid drug is designed to replace the traditional, poor-tasting bowel cleaning liquid that patients drink to prep their systems for a colonoscopy. The drug will allow patients take less liquid and still prepare for the screening.

"Physicians can now offer their patients a new preparation option for colonoscopies that features a lower-volume, one-liter ... bowel preparation," said Mark McKenna, senior vice president and general manager, Salix Pharmaceuticals, the maker of the drug. "Studies have shown that high-volume bowel preparations can often be a deterrent to patients fully completing their preparation regimen."

I used to have a colonoscopy every 2 years at least. They are nothing to worry about and can find any issues before they become a problem. If they find anything, make sure you get as much information from the Dr as possible, even to the extent of getting a second opinion.

In reality, though, if things are caught early, there should be no problem. Good luck with the proceedure.

they are going to do that on the results of a home test ?
No second opinion or more follow up ?

@rckt148 i have to go to a consultation first

@rckt148 She probably did that take home 'cardboard test' that you have to return to the doctor and get it evaluated.

Then she returns for the consultation and a prescription for the cleanser....

They are not a big deal, the worst part is having to gag down the cleanser and being so damn hungry before you can eat again.

@DallasCowboysFan yea I have been trough it a few times myself
had 6 intestinal polyps removed ,a huge cyst that was causing a blockage and
they repaired my hemorrhoid problem from all the straining .
The colonoscopy is no big deal except the gallon of Go Lite and the time on the toilet as it cleans you out ,
But I know people who also needed a colostomy ,a whole new ball game

colonoscopy...usually negative results esp with no or few symptoms, and you won't feel anything.
