I'm getting a little tired of this Covid sit...

I am so mad right now I could scream. I was planning on flying out to visit my GF tomorrow and staying through New Years. It's our one year anniversary.

But new covid restrictions combined with Navy policies means I can't go. The trip is off.

So everyone: I don't care where you are or who you are:
- Wear your friggin' masks!
- Wash your hands!
- Keep your social distance!
- Stay home unless you absolutely have to go out.

We need to shut this thing down. 🙄

Some people will be irresponsible regardless of the consequences
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@vetguy1991 Yeah, I know. But in this situation, the consequences are not just on them. I'm all about individual rights, 100%! But not wearing a mask is equivalent to assaulting your neighbor.
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@vetguy1991 if a man, or woman, walks down the street brandishing a machete and threatening passers by, he should expect to be shot.

right now, i would apply the same sanction to people who refuse to apply social distancing or to wear masks.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Yulianna I'm not sure I'd go that far Yulia, but they certainly have given up their right to walk freely down that street in my mind.
@Yulianna Didn’t we just we just witness a massive social movement taking a stance against violence enacted upon people based on their appearance?
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@KrackerBash do you mean the appearance of waving a machete around in a crowded public space?

or the appearance of not giving a shit about your risk of infecting people with a potentially deadly virus, by not wearing a mask?
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@sarabee1995 then choose your way to stop them...
@Yulianna You’d have to assume they have a machete and assume their intentions, since you really are only witnessing someone without a mask and are projecting an ability and willingness to harm you.

I bet your heart is coming from a place of overcoming a virus through total unity of compliance. But it undeniably has a Soviet Bloc odor to it. Neighbors reporting on one another and even being willing to kill? That’s way worse than a virus.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@KrackerBash I suppose you believe you are being logical.

But you’re being absurd.

If you need to be absurd to make your point, what does that say?
Pikachu ·
@JoeyFoxx

I dunno, it's standard rhetorical tool.
Reductio ad absurdum
@JoeyFoxx You have no point, so you you call mine absurd. If you ever want to share perspectives with an open mind and without being so defensive, I’d gladly engage. Until then, peace out.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@KrackerBash who’s being defensive punkin? You upset that people don’t agree with your twisted logic?

What’s wrong sweetness? Having a sad day?
@JoeyFoxx Who raised you?
Pikachu ·
@JoeyFoxx
punkin...sweetness
lol bud...you're trying too hard.
You started your engagement by comparing the color of a person’s skin to a choice to not wear a mask in a pandemic. It’s an invalid comparison
Now imagine if you had started the conversation with that.
You might be enjoying a rational discussion right now.

Food for thought😉
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Pikachu The rest of us understood what @JoeyFoxx meant.
Pikachu ·
@sarabee1995

Oh i don't disagree with the idea that comparing skin colour to wearing a mask is flawed, i'm just pointing out that Foxx approached this person combatively and then seemed surprised when they reacted to it poorly.
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@Pikachu food for stating the obvious... Krackerbash knew exactly what he was doing when he responded to my original comment. having played the BLM card, he subsequently acccused me of "Soviet bloc" thinking but citing an example from nazi Germany.

he seems to be a bit confused.
Pikachu ·
@Yulianna

I do think Krackerbash is wrong. I just also think JoeyFoxx started out trying to pick a fight and then got belligerent when he found one.
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@Pikachu which he? 😁

when someone makes an opening statement, that is all you have to go on and s reasoned first response is appropriate.

but when you are reading someone else's response to a statement, you already have very clear indications of their way of thinking and arguing.

in those circumstances, a more strident approach may well be justified.

party when it is clear that the other person suffers from severely muddled thinking and fractured logic.

the alternative, of course, is to ignore them altogether.
Pikachu ·
@Yulianna

lol maybe, but i think when someone doesn't respond well to being condescended to and called absurd, perhaps jumping right into "punkin" and "sweetness" demonstrates an eagerness to exercise a little more stridency than is strictly called for.
Yulianna · 22-25, F
@Pikachu 😂 ok, without reviewing the whole sequence, i will admit that "punkin" and "sweetness" are not the descriptors that immediately spring to mind!
Pikachu ·
@Yulianna

Not my go-to either lol
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Pikachu Pika, buddy ole pal...

I didn’t start with the condescension. Hell, you agreed with my calling him out for being absurd.

When he got defensive, I decided to have some fun. That’s it.

My humblest apologies if this goes against your sensibilities, because you’ve certainly never been guilty of enjoying an argument
Pikachu ·
@JoeyFoxx
I didn’t start with the condescension.
...
I suppose you believe you are being logical.
...not even a little? lol

I'm no angel, certainly. Just calling out your bad behaviour.
Nothing to be defensive about because you know you engaged that user with an intent to fight.
Right Punkin?😜
