I Am Going to Say Something Controversial

Can you really say it's family friendly if it promotes slavery?

Teirdalin · 31-35
I can't really remember for sure, but didn't they join him of their own free will because it's safer working in the factory than to be hunted by animals in their original habitat; and are even paid as well in their favorite food (as they have a village somewhere in the factory and thus don't spend actual money to begin with)?
Teirdalin · 31-35
@SW-User I doubt the entire species lives in the factory, that'd be one massive migration of pygmies.
SW-User
@Teirdalin So he only brought a portion of the population? I wonder how the workers were selected.....
Teirdalin · 31-35
@SW-User These are questions Roald Dahl really should have answered. Then again he kinda looked like an Oompa Loompa too so maybe he lived in the factory. 🤔
SW-User
Hmm, you've got me wondering now. I'm think we really need to hear the Oompa Loompas's side, lol.
SW-User
@SW-User Ugh thank you....everyone else seems content on Wonka's explanation that he's paying them in cocoa beans....sure let's take the word of the slave trader 🙄
He rescued them from their homeland and is providing them with both a place to stay and meaningful work to keep them busy. So what if they're paid in defective candy and out of date golden tickets? 😒
SW-User
@ProdigalSummer Why hasn't this been tried outside of the movies?
@SW-User because humans are far too altruistic to ever build an industry on the dependency of slave labor.
SW-User
@ProdigalSummer 😕 lol
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
Can we really call our current min wage...slave labor?
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
@SW-User dont get me started on the unfavorable working conditions and the fact they are offered sub-par medical. If pre existing conditions are no longer covered half the work force will go in diabetic shock
SW-User
@JarJarBoom I'm willing to bet OL's have a gene that makes them immune to diabetes. The rest I agree with though. And I don't consider it a coincidence that we never shown their living quarters. They probably don't have any because they are working 24/7.
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
@SW-User 1 bed per 4 oompas...if they make enough chocolate for the day..they might be rewarded a 15 minute nap
elVato · 46-50, M
Oompa Loompa trigger?

He pays them in coco beans. To the tribes of lumpaland that is the most valuable thing.
SW-User
@Mrblue123 Hmm, I don't know about this meeting....sounds like fake news to me.
Mrblue123 · M
@SW-User watch the films and all will become clear.
SW-User
@Mrblue123 Yea I remember the meeting with the chief that Wonka talks about....again...a story we heard from the mouth of the slave trader.
Doubt they were kept there against their will or without some kind of compensation.
SW-User
@Solenya Seems a bit suspicious to me....and we know what kinda "deals" Wonka likes to work out. All you have to do is look at his contract, his demeanor, et cetera, et cetera, ET CETERA!
@SW-User Suspicious? Pffft, never. It's not like I'm an oompaloompa who secretly hates my life and wants to get away from my slaver but can't say so directly since he monitors our social media and am instead trying to make you understand that you need to get me the hell out of here please or I will die like one of those poor children who they didn't put in the movies. That would just be ridiculous 🙃
SW-User
@Solenya 😂 Well done

@bijouxbroussard Just take the bait 🙄
