I Got The Cane Or Slipper In The Sixth Form

One of my wife's friends told us about an incident when she was in 6th form.

Some of them had started visiting a local pub on Friday lunchtimes and the school wasn't very happy about it. The headmaster made an announcement in assembly that several boys had been seen there. They had been warned not to go there again but, in future, anyone caught doing so would be caned.

A couple of weeks later my wife's friend a a couple of other girls were caught. They tried claiming they thought the rule only applied to boys! It didn't work, they all got six of the best. :)

Visiting a pub (or drinking alcohol on school premises) would have resulted in a caning at my school as well

@Sharon At least some choices in life are easy...😉

@Sharon think the slipper was much more for girls at home

@barney1 The boys I knew got it at home just as much as girls. There wasn't much sex discrimination where I grew up.

We had a helpful arrangement with our teachers - boys in one pub, masters in another, no tales told. I don’t remember anyone risking it in the lunch hour though. It would certainly have been six of the best if the head had found out.

@MartinII Some teachers would turn a blind eye to a lot of things, especially in 6th form. Students at a nearby college were free to go to the pub at lunchtime and many of them did. Despite being the same age, as 6th former "at school" were we still "schoolchildren".

@Sharon Yes indeed. And of course everything changed out of school hours and away from the vicinity of school. Many were the pints I drink, from age about 16, with teachers on school walking expeditions.
🍺😋
