Dress uniforms look cool, and given how royalty historically were the only people who had enough resources to make proper armor and a sword to begin with, it makes sense that they'd be keen on keeping that tradition. Plus, the Royals seem to have some history of military service.

All that said, Prince Andrew can fuck right off with this "I demand to be an admiral at the funeral!" mess.

@TiffAching I reckon trying to demand anything off HM will not happen

Point was they did. Most of the males in the royal family served in the military. King George VI served as an officer on a battleship during WW1. Known as the pseudonym Mr. Johnson, he actually saw action in the Battle of Jutland.

I don’t think Prince Henry any more
RedBaron · M
@Royrogers What's wrong with it, and what's it to you?
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@RedBaron Prince Henry is his actual name. Journalists like to be familiar and call him Harry
RedBaron · M
@Royrogers And? What's the problem?
Nimbus · M
It's a fetish of the Royal Family to dress up like that.
Royrogers · 61-69, M
@Nimbus if you had worn military full dress uniform I doubt you would choose to wear it ss s fetish
RedBaron · M
@Royrogers ss s fetish? What does that mean?
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
It's a ceremonial thing. PoW is an honourary 5 Star ranker of all three RAF branches
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
I think its a custom for those who served to wear a uniform at certain events.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
Ceremonial/ tradition🙂

1. It has always been traditional for all royals to do this for centuries.
2. They all did required military service but unlike your average joe blow from the streets they still represent their country each and every time they are in public.
3. Most male royals hold rank in some branch of the military or have an honorary title.
Even average people often wear their military uniform to their wedding or some such extremely important event.
