I Have a Mental Illness

I have autism spectrum disorder level 2 out of 3 levels of severity, and I have 2 comfort items. One I just got and I'll bring to school, the other one is a stuffed elephant named Henry that I've had since I was 6 months. Is this normal for autistics?

Yes it is very normal , I have two autistic siblings and they have comfort items as well. They can not go a day without them. I don't have autism and I have a comfort item too , a blanket my mom gave me as a child , I use it everyday.

@LiftedDreamer My daughter took the baby blanket I made her to college too!

Never much liked the word 'normal' because I mean... nobody is normal. But if they help you feel better then I'm sure they're good for you :)

I think that's pretty normal for everybody. Lots of people have a comfort item that they treasure, and some Autistic people I know find soft items especially soothing, so your elephant makes perfect sense to me. ☺
You didn't tell us what the new item actually is! I would also like to know why the elephant doesn't get to go to school with you.

@Splendida The new item I got is kind of a mini version of the stuffed elephant I got when I was 6 months old so it fits in my bag much better than the old one.

I’m not even autistic and I keep a “comfort” item
