There is something about entering an old house ,especially a derelict one ...you can see how they used to live and find clues to their way of life and it takes you back to that time...it's fascinating

My upper school used to occupy buildings on totally separate sites well over a mile apart, and one was a strange, rambling old place, probably 19C, perhaps 18C.
It was called Connaught House but I have no idea if was built as a school or as a house.
It was not derelict of course, as we were using it, and a few rooms on the first floor were occupied separately as a flat; but it had a lot of unused rooms plus corridors and staircases leading... somewhere. ("Just for fun"?) There was even a disused bathroom just outside my class-room.
I'd love to have been able to explore it, and know a bit more about it.
Ours was the last generation to use it as we moved to brand-new, purpose-built, superbly-equipped school buildings - of which half were recently demolished! Connaught House is all gone now, I believe, swept away to make room for yet another clone housing-estate. Maybe next time I drive past, I will take a little detour.
