I Love Old Buildings

Our school is founded on the site of a manor house and estate that belonged to an aristocratic Welsh family until they had their property confiscated in the 16thC for being Catholics 😟

Lots of new buildings have been put up since, but the old manor house survives and I live in one wing of it with 16 other girls and a teacher 🙂 Some of the other boarding houses are more modern with nicer bathrooms, but I would not swap our house for anything. It has beautiful polished oak floorboards - which are lovely to walk on in bare feet - beams, old glass windows and a great big staircase.

The last lady of the manor had 7 daughters (so the estate would not have remained in her family, even if it had not been taken away), so I like to think that she would approve of its current use and that when we slide down the banister we are continuing an old tradition 🙂

I also sometimes like to imagine that I am Lady Tammie Bear 🐻😉

@KatieJ We are doing just fine 🙂 The little girls kept on getting into trouble last week, but things are better this week and we are back to normal bedtimes again 😌

@KatieJ It suits me well 🙂 Most of the girls have no shoes on inside the house, so we can move around without making too much noise and climb on each other's beds 🤗

@KatieJ We can't get out much in this weather, which is why the girls restless. We made them do extra PE at the weekend to tire them out 🙂 Of course, we shouldn't climb on beds, but it's nice to snuggle up on a cold evening 🤗

@KatieJ No, they moaned about it endlessly, particularly having to change into their PE kits in the freezing cold! But in the evening, when they were pleasantly tired and watching TV in their pyjamas, we all felt the benefit 🙂

@TammieBear Brr I hate changing into tiny shorts n tee in the winter. Why aren’t gyms ever ever heated?

Little bear-lets 😂😂 so cute ☺️ And are they running in bear feet? They should as it’s good for foot strength and development.

@KatieJ They have slip-on plimsolls for walking to the gym, but they have to take them off for gymnastics, dance and anything else that requires you to grip with your feet. Our PE teacher prefers that young girls go without shoes wherever possible while their feet are still growing. I get them to walk on their toes because it strengthens the arches and gives them beautiful posture 😌

@TammieBear Your PE teacher is very wise and I hope all the young girls go without shoes. Pretty much all PE can be done in bare feet without trouble.

@KatieJ Rabbits actually! They stop my soles from getting grubby, but I take them off for gymnastics, because that would just be silly 😊

@TammieBear haha I can just picture you now wearing a leotard and bunny rabbit slippers.
Grubby soles go with being barefoot and well can be scrubbed clean easy enough 🙂
