I Love Old Buildings

Our school is founded on the site of a manor house and estate that belonged to an aristocratic Welsh family until they had their property confiscated in the 16thC for being Catholics 😟

Lots of new buildings have been put up since, but the old manor house survives and I live in one wing of it with 16 other girls and a teacher 🙂 Some of the other boarding houses are more modern with nicer bathrooms, but I would not swap our house for anything. It has beautiful polished oak floorboards - which are lovely to walk on in bare feet - beams, old glass windows and a great big staircase.

The last lady of the manor had 7 daughters (so the estate would not have remained in her family, even if it had not been taken away), so I like to think that she would approve of its current use and that when we slide down the banister we are continuing an old tradition 🙂

I also sometimes like to imagine that I am Lady Tammie Bear 🐻😉

@KatieJ Rabbits actually! They stop my soles from getting grubby, but I take them off for gymnastics, because that would just be silly 😊

@TammieBear haha I can just picture you now wearing a leotard and bunny rabbit slippers.
Grubby soles go with being barefoot and well can be scrubbed clean easy enough 🙂

I love old buildings :)
I don't believe in ghosts but in old buildings it's fun to think about what ghosts there could be.

@SarahX All the surfaces in our house are worn down and made irregular by people touching them or walking on them. If you put your hand on our banister, you can shut your eyes and think of all the girls who have done the same over the centuries 😌 Btw, we are not supposed to talk about ghosts (or werewolves or vampires) as it upsets the younger girls 😟

But surely telling the younger girls about them is fun :D and I bet if you had been there when you were younger the older girls would have done the same to you. And you would have got scared but would soon learn that they are not real :)
I'm worried about you by the way. Is it a good idea to go up and down the stairs with your eyes closed hahaha?

@SarahX Telling stories is great fun, but there was a werewolf craze last year which got a bit out of hand and some of the really little girls couldn't sleep because of the tales their big sisters were telling 😟

It's probably not a good idea to go up and downstairs with your eyes closed, but I take my shoes and socks off and find my way by touch 😌
