I Love Psychology

I want to share with you a fascinating story that it’s not very well-known even in the USA where it took place.
It’s the story of Gipsy, a young woman who was being used and of course, abused by her mother since she was a very little kid.
My god! All of us have been heard about how overprotection parenting is bad as hell for a kid’s normal development. But this is beyond overprotection years-light.

The mum was using her child to gain attention and government aids by inventing all kinds of illness and disabilities on her kid.
The kid took revange but I don’t want to tell more about this fascinating documentary called Mommy dead and dearest. [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4mo-9TqqRs]

I can't see convicting her for striking out at what was done to her. How is she supposed to know how to get help after the conditioning she went through. This is terrible.

@Subsumedpat I agree. From an out view is easy to say that she chosed the wrong path but her personality was so castrated. Gipsy didn’t exist without her mother Dee Dee. And Dee Dee wasn’t an ordinary mother who can show some overprotecting behaviour. She was very manipulative.
I’m even shocked that Gipsy got to get rid of her with life.

@twistermind You just can't look at this as just another crime. When something like this happens to a child you can't expect a normal rational mind to develop, her mother, and the system that failed her caused her to be like she is mentally and she should not bare the responsibility of that. She probably needs mental health services not prison. The boyfriends trial should start in a couple of weeks from what I understand, I bet the prosecution is pitching a fit to get some kind of plea deal because it will look pretty bad on them if the boyfriend is let off because of the hideousness of what was done to her over the the years and she is still in prison.

@Subsumedpat I didn’t know that his trial will take place now. Interesting to see what happens.
Agree with you.
I have doubts that a prison environment will be the best for Gipsy. And in the end, the USA’s Justice system’s spirit is based on getting some kind of retribution for breaking the law. I see as Gipsy’s mother is also guilty of breaking the law so this should be taken into account to retribute Gipsy somehow.
I’m sure that here in my country, Gipsy wouldn’t pay more than 4 years or even less encarcelated and it would take place in a recovering institution. But, this is bc in the law is contemplated not only retribution but also the posibilities of a person to be integrated again in society without represent a danger for others.
Both systems will give place to mistakes though.

That is totally messed up that doctors did not pick up on what was going on.

@Subsumedpat Very true. A doctor even made a report about his suspicious and it went nowhere.

Neither her own father had the initiative to see what was going on. He phoned Gipsy when she got 18 and the mother asked him for not tell Gipsy that she was 18. The mum lied her daughter her real age.

Should have had a trial, I don't think she would have been convicted at trial. Their juries have to be unanimous, it only takes one person to say no we are not going to do that. I question they will even be able to convict the boyfriend this winter.
