I Am Fascinated By the Macabre

Morbid Curiosity.... I am fascinated by the macabre. I have been for as long as I can remember. It started out with me watching horror movies with my mother at 4 years old. I grew obsessed with my horror movies and told my teacher that I wanted to be a serial killer when I grow up :) My parents were called in after that, but my mom assured them that I was harmless.

My fascination with all things macabre immediately branded me an outcast among my peers. Thus I chose to hide this part of myself, only show it to those who understand it. People are so full of prejudice, but we all have this morbid curiosity within us. That's why when there is a car accident, everyone looks around frantically - hoping to see blood (or even better, bodies). The general populace just choose to live in denial about this darkness within them. But whether they admit it or not; its still there... and it's not going anywhere. You might as well just do as we have done, and embrace it.

I completely understand what you're saying. I've been fascinated by death, murder, killers and their minds ever since I can remember. So many people, including my own family, have commented on how strange it is and that maybe I should at least pretend I'm not interested in these things, if not forget about it completely. But it's a part of me and I can't help it. And criminal psychology, etc are very fascinating studies. And I think it's very normal that these things interest us. I mean, it's not like I go around trying these things that I hear and read about. I just want to understand why these things happen. My love for sharks and reptiles and dinosaurs have caused alarm in family members and peers as well, for what reason, I know not. :)

I've heard that people who are most interested in the macabre faced some kind of childhood trauma. I can't think of anything that happened to me that was so bad as to scar me so early on. But I'm not sure.
