Mother bear takes the call.

My daughter, a highly functioning autistic adult, got a scam call today!

They tried to get her social security number!

She'd hang up and they keep calling back, trying to tell her she had cerdit debt.
She's never had cerdit of any kind.

Finally, frustrated she handed thd phone to me.

I told them she's had no cerdit debt is an autistic adult and to stop calling.
They argued they wanted to speak to Katherine.

I hung up on them.

They immediately called back.

Gee,fella the gig was up,you didn't get that?馃槨

I showed my daughter how to block unwanted calls on her phone and stressed, again, to my daughter the imoprtance of not giving out your social security number to anyone who calls you over the phone. (sigh)

One of the things you can do with scam calls is have some fun at they're expense... Tell them to hang on while you go search for it... Keep a tally on who waits the longest lol

Scam calls are horrific. I got one during a D&D session once so to mess with the person who activates the recording system I had the DM continue narrating to confuse whoever was on the other end.

Worked fine until SOMEONE (one of the other players) decided to say the magic word "Hello"

@anxietyme when will they learn?
anxietymeF
@JustADnDNerd if there's any money to be had they never will. A lot of them purposely go after people with disabilities and the elderly it is pretty disgusting.

@anxietyme You can say that again.

I'm so sorry this is happening. For peace of mind, you might want to place a lock on all her credit reports. Last time I did that, it only cost me $10. I keep them locked at all times unless I need to apply for credit, which is very rare.

The other thing you can do, is instruct her to not pick up any calls on numbers/people/companies she doesn't recognize. If someone really wants to get a hold of her, they'll leave a message. Most of those scammers don't leave one.

@SW-User Good advice, we did have the talk about not answering unkown numbers and waiting for message instead

@SweetMae It's concerning as she is about to live on her own. Very close to momma, but still it's a concern. Have to trust God and be there to help all I can.

@anxietyme Yes, that is the best you can do. Block a phone number is useful skill.

It is terrible thstbthe do that to anyone, but to her! I get so many scam calls every day. I pick up the phone, say hello, if no answer quickly, I hang up.
