I Am Lost In Life

I gaze upon the verdant fields that mark my life,
Lush hues to most...but gray to me.
The shadows long begin to creep,
Darkening my trail...blotting me.

My compass failed, my heart is lost,
I shiver against the chill tonight,
I see the smiles of the ones I love,
Who are blind to me...and my fight.

My mind drifts to long ago,
A place where I roamed free,
The faces etched in youthful fare,
When the one still here was only me.

So alas I fear the darkness more,
Illuminating things I still abhor,
The vaulted skies where I once was free,
Leave only a wispy memory.
