I Am Spanish
On October 1st there will be a referendum for independence in Catalonia. First things first, that referendum is illegal. Spanish conatitution does not give their territories the chance to secede. Unfair? Maybe, but the law is the law.
Those who fight to change an unfair law deserve respect. Those who just break it are criminals who deserve to be punished. That's what the Catalonian government is doing, just using a forceful position based on the amount of people in demonatration, oblivious than a large amount does not equal being right.
Personally, I would give Catalonia their referendum and the independence if the majority of Catalonians vote so. Facing all the consequences of their decision. Moving out of EU and euro, and with Spain vetoing any chance of re-entering it. Imposing border controls. Double nationality would not be accepted, those living in Catalonia should choose, and those opting to be Catalonians would lose their right to get any pensions from the Spanish government.
(By the way, oppressed Catalonia has its own parliament, police, and citizens have no restrictions at all to use Catalan language. On the other hsnd, parents who want their kids to be taught in Spanish at school face trouble, and owners who refuse to label their businesses in Catalan face fines reaching thousands of euro)
