Tell me how would you get rid of ego without getting rid of initiative?
To me the two are the same.
We initiate things because our ego says we can.
We would be forever stuck in the stone age without even so much as a simple camp fire to keep us warm. Not even clothes either.
Probably freeze to death on the first sign of an ice age.
Even monkeys have enough ego to initiate a move to the next watering hole much less any animal. It's not instinctual because the watering holes keep changing.

@DeWayfarer you do bring up a valid point, that you need initiative to grow and initiative gets fueled through ego. Perhaps the better direction in this is to create more of a selfless mindset, rather than the self centered motives that breed the desire to dominate and prove superiority.

@Ferric67 you were not totally on the wrong track.
Instead of removing ego, less ego on aggressive mind sets would be better.
