I Am A Humanist

I am a Christian and a Humanist. In other words I believe in a world without presuming the existence of a god but I also believe that the teachings of Jesus set out a philosophy of life and ethical values that I have chosen as a guide for my life.

For those for whom belief in a god is not possible. that is a way to live ethically and responsibly. It is an arbitrary choice, as is any ethical choice, but it is the one I have made.

I am tired of hearing fundamentalist Christians say such nonsense that there cannot be any human values without accepting the idea of a god, and that their way is the only way. Why they are unwilling to say that their view is a choice, just as my view is a choice, is what makes their view unpalatable to me and many.

If anyone cares about that idea, try my website: www.christianhumanist.net

Anyways, I looked at your site and have concluded that you represent naturalistic pantheism: a means of enticing the pre-Buddhist (spiritualist) crowd while maintaining roots in pessimistic skepticism. It's not some overt attempt to meet Christianity halfway or somehow draw Christians away from Christianity at all. It's an attempt to draw those in limbo towards the simpler form of atheism. These attempts to represent middle ground without conceding anything typically fare poorly, and are just polar propaganda. Christian apologists do the same thing- but from the other side; this goodwill ambassadorship.

Still, the idea of scrapping God while retaining the idea of reciprocity is sound. I can applaud you on getting this much right.

This is a pretty good analysis, Kelsey- but I think we can improve upon it. The (low) atheist is realistic enough to not think he can take middle ground or drag a spiritualist backwards into skepticism. He might mention Christianity to sound as if all the bases have been covered (a pretense to being open-minded that atheists seem to like), but the real reason is to drag the complete novice forward into (low) atheism at a quicker pace while keeping those already within it satisfied that there is no 'higher' place to evolve. This makes more sense to me.
Yikes. You have not a clue. A lot of what you said is meaningless words strung together in the assumption you are saying something. None of what you said even remotely describes my beliefs. Try after you have read stuff from my website or books.

@Humanist321: It might seem meaningless to you, but I assure you that this is a most rational explanation of position relative to other beliefs. I can even test and illustrate this if you wish. Do you promote the belief in eternal life in your books? Do you accept any of these concepts: god(s), spirit, and heaven? if your answer is no to both things I can plot your position.
No I don't need your comments. Get an advanced degree in philosophy and we could have an intelligent conversation. The idea that you could chart my ideas is preposterous. Btw I do not believe in a life after death or spirits or unicorns. I do believe in Santa Claus. I got packages at xmas with his name on them.

@Humanist321: It's most unfortunate that you take this stance of denouncing what you know nothing about. And I not only have a doctorate in education but have specialized in relevant aspects of religion, philosophy, psychology and science. You, on the other hand are just stripping down Christianity as an atheist might prefer it to be regarded. You say very little of worth yet manage to fill books. I really hate it when old, blowhard know-littles speak to me like this. Yet I first went onto your post, so I'll go elsewhere.

@Humanist321: I liked the xmas reference. You seem more relaxed than the other persons commenting here heh.
@lucyrocks.... wow, pretty hostile and full of pomposity and arrogance for someone of your tender years and little experience. You have a doctorate in education? Gheez, that's impressive. You haven't read any of my books and you have not done any critical reviews of them but you call me a "know little"? I told you that your comments about MY VIEWS are wrong--you did not have a clue what my views are or you would not have made those comments. I said nothing about your views, whatever they are. Your comments are not relevant, not useful, and not accurate.
