Ethical question

This is an oldie but a goodie:

If you could travel back in time and kill Hitler when he was a baby, would you do it? (And yes, I know how that turned out in that Star Trek episode.)

I am not sure, maybe just whisper in the Allies leaderships ear. I think with the right information, it could have been stopped much sooner or even easing the requirements of the Treaty of Versailles, the whole thing may have been avoided.

No, as horrible as what happened, much good did result, Shoah foundation for example, and if it was done, someone worse than him may have gained power, as the problem wasn't just him.

@SW-User You might be right about that. Terrible political leaders usually don’t exist in a vacuum.

And of course, you would need time travel (and thus, knowledge of what Hitler did) to even consider it. It might not be easy to kill somebody - I doubt if I could do it at all, unless they were actively, right now trying to kill me.

@SW-User That's right.Even if Hitler had died in the Great War,or later, there were others - like Erich Rohm,or Reinhard Heydrich.

If it wasn't that individual it would have been someone else, I think that's how history had to play out
Its like saying the same thing about little baby bearded Bin Laden.

Hindsight is 20/20, it's easy to think about it now, perhaps if he'd had a different upbringing or had not fought in WWI he would have been a different person, perhaps not. Not sure i'd kill him but would certainly want him monitored a lot more closely, wonder if he killed small animals as a child as many mass murderers start there...
Yes-and since time travel was invented in the future it’s probably already happened.Sci-fi likes it’s different time lines stories...perhaps they are real.
Or I could go back and tell him he’s a brilliant artist and to stick with it...anyone own a Hitler?
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@TheSirfurryanimalWales Actually, that would be a better idea — encourage him to keep on with his art.

I'm not sure. I mean, I'd like to think so; I'd have to know what the future outcome would be though.
No. In spite of everything, I couldn’t personally kill a child. All I could do is treat it kindly and hope that made a difference. 😞
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@bijouxbroussard That’s the thing - even if I knew that baby would grow up to be Hitler, I don’t know if I could do it. It seems worse to kill a child.

How old was Hitler when he started making trouble?
@SmartKat Everything I’ve read indicates he was greatly affected by his service in WWI.

Deadpool couldn’t do it
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@SW-User True.
MiserableAtBest · 18-21, F
It would probably fuck up the timeline very badly, but let’s say it wouldn’t affect history or the future in any way then I would.
reessa · 22-25, F
not how time travel works
@reessa Have we established time travel so that it works at all ? 🤔
No - of course not.
