I Respect My Elders

Unless they're nasty old pieces of shit, then I treat them with as much respect as they give out. I feel that some elders interpret that principle as them being able to do and say whatever they want and people still have to respect them because they're old. Sorry, but respect doesn't become a one-way street once you get old. It just doesn't. I do believe respect can be entitled to elderly people by default, such as being assisted by able-bodied people when they need it and whatnot, but that entitlement is a privilege, not a right. It can just as easily be lost if they don't show respect in turn. That being said, do respect your elders, but only if they deserve it.
