I Want To Share This Advice With You

This is for job seekers.

I just wanted to say to make sure that you attach a cover letter with every application.
I had an interview today. I have only 4 months of experience related to the position.
I was a volunteer for 1 day a week, for 4 months to be exact (at a different organziation).

I got to the interview and one of the first things the interviewer said was "you don't have alot of experience with this but I really liked your cover letter and your resume looks great, so I wanted to bring you in and talk to you".

I think that's great feedback into an interviewers 'mind' so I thought I'd share.

I also want to share what was said to me by an internship manager. I had told her that I was applying for jobs as she said she'd help me if I need it regarding reference letters, resume help and stuff...

I told her that I saw jobs that I wanted but did not apply because I lack the experience.

She told me that what you see on the job post, and all those qualifications, are the ideal candidate. Nobody is perfect, and most likely no one is gonna have all of those qualities. So even if you have just one, apply for the job. Don't sell yourself short. Don't tell yourself no, let them tell you 'no'.

(I'm really good at selling myself short)

Thats all🙂💼👠👔👞🧾🖊️

I wanted to repost this because once again, my advice is working 😉. I applied for a job that I only have 5months of experience with, the job post requires two years of experience. So because i applied anyway, I ended up getting an interview.

Excellent advice! A cover letter gives a little more insight into who you are. Besides, people typically spend a few seconds looking over a resume. My best friend told me that 50% of requirements gets you in the door. Your value is not based on your history, but on your future. You are destined for great things.

@thepixiestixs thank you. It worked for me so i thought id share

Good advice. When applying for a job you are advertising yourself and putting a best foot forward. A good cover letter may just get you in the door.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@lasergraph certainly👍🏾

Yeah its the enthusiasm people love. Being a team player being loyal to the boss. All that matters. But uh, personally I do make them say no because I like to look for loopholes in the workplace to exploit and I own the interviewer with one sentence. If they show to be sour pusses about it, then its clear the place you go for won't allow you to explore opportunities and they'll act like sore losers. That's been my experience so far. Poke their weakspot a little then they show their true intentions.

That's awesome response from the interviewer and I do wish many hiring managers will be like her..

being honest and forthright is usually the best pathway!
iamnikki · 31-35, F
@samueltyler2 where did I ever say to be dishonest?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@iamnikki just the opposite, you espoused being open and honest. There was another poster, not on your post, who said to lie, that it was the only way to get a job! I am supporting you and your actions, NOT hers.
