I Hate the World We Live In

Isn't it funny how you listen to the story being told by one side of an issue, and it makes it sound like the issue is so utterly one sided that only a brain-dead psycho could possibly be on the other side of it... but then you listen to the story being told by the other side of the issue, and it ALSO makes it sound like the issue is so utterly one sided that only a brain-dead psycho could possibly be on the other side of it. And yet, we all keep on insisting that our side is utterly right, and that the other side is utterly wrong.

But that's not surprising, since most people hate the truths that they don't want to see, and love the lies that tell them the stories that they want to hear. People who like cops and believe in being hard on criminals think that Philando Castille's killer was doing his job - a job of service and sacrifice that, rather than being honored, is despised by far too many people. And people who hate cops and think that civilians accused of crimes (especially those who aren't white) should be given the benefit of the doubt think that Philando Castille's killer is the devil, and that the system let him get away with his crime purely because he's one of their own. The story is written for them before a single fact has come in, And not a single one of them spends even a second giving a damn about looking past their preconceived notions and trying to find the truth.

That's because it requires effort, thought, judgement, wisdom, time....and people are too lazy to make themselves uncomfortable.

Most people are, definitely. But I should point out (to myself as much as to you) that in recent decades and centuries, a small but meaningful percentage of people have started to genuinely put in the effort to challenge their preconceived notions and to find some real wisdom in themselves. It's small, but it's a transformation that I don't think has ever happened before in the history of the world.
