I Felt Alone On My Birthday

Oh I have been alone on my birthday last several years. My grandparents used to take me out to eat but it just feels weird now. So yeah, it’s pretty depressing. I’d love to hear from others in the same boat.

Years ago, I lived in SF (San Francisco) and was alone most of that time. All relatives lived thousands of miles away. Had few, good friends at that time. Gay men tried to hit up on me frequently and not being gay that was borh annoying and depressing. For my birthdays or Christmases back then I tried to provide the illusion of family or social happiness and intimacy by having nice dinners in crowded restaurants, diners or bars. It worked somewhat….

In 2019 my birthday was the worst... My girlfriend left me, and I was living in a strange city, without friends. My "only" celebration was buying a video game and sleep all day.

I had a birthday in my twenties where my high school gf (who I was on and off again with) took me out for lunch and admitted she fell for the guy she was seeing. That was definitely the worst birthday I can remember having @ike3656

I haven't celebrated mine since I was (forced to at) 13 y/o for that same reason. Better to choose to be alone,than be forced to be alone and/or forgotten

I'll never forget my 50th birthday. I thought that someone would throw a surprise party for me for such a momentous milestone (half a century!!), so I didn't mind people "pretending to forget" my birthday.... Yet the evening came and I found myself celebrating all my myself, feasting on leftovers...

Been there done that many times. I had a few birthdays where I’d get a couple happy birthdays from people but that was pretty much it. Its one of those weird adulting things that happens over time

I was alone on my Birthday during the 2020 Lockdown . It felt kind of strange but I chatted to family and friends on the phone and played some music and had a few drinks and felt better 💗 Hope you aren’t feeling too lonely now 🌹

I have spent far birthdays alone than I have with anyone doing anything for my birthday. Depressing, yes, but you get used to it, and figure out how to celebrate yourself.

Been there many times .,. It could be worse you could be in jail or hospital … I was in hospital but they let me out on my birthday so wasn’t that bad

Birthdays are pretty boring here. I live very far away from most people I grew up with and the people I know now aren't really hang out on birthdays people.
