I Like Philosophy

"We're condemned to be free." That's such an incredible thought. We're either worrying because we know we have to make a choice or we're worrying because we think someone else isn't letting us. In that sense, we very much are condemned - or at least seemingly so. I'd much prefer us be condemned to ourselves than some cold, dictatorial scheme governing everything we do. To be condemned to ourselves can only suggest that we at least have some ability to exert control - to try and do something with it, instead of just outsourcing it all away into the heavens above and below.

We're condemned because the only choice we have is our own. And for a lot of people that can be the most terrifying thing imaginable. Very few people like the idea of having such a responsibility to shift. So it seems as if we're lamenting our freedom or demanding that others give us more of it. But there's no sense of power in this system. No responsibility or self-will. Lets rejoice at the fact we're condemned and make something of it.
