What motivates a selfie?

What is a selfie? Okay, obviously I know what a selfie is, not born under a rock. To me the important question is why? Why do you selfie? Is there something to be gained from selfies all over the internet?

I don't share them. My husband makes me take pictures or else there would be zero of me anywhere. I don't even look at them.
