I Don't Answer the Phone When I Don't Want to

I never answer the telephone when it's inconvenient, and never at meal times. The number of times I get "I phoned earlier - where were you?". Then if I say where I was, "Surely you could hear the phone from there. Why didn't you answer? I wanted to speak to you."
Well - you have my attention now and you just spent the last two minutes quizzing me as to my whereabouts, so it can't have been anything important.
And beware cold callers trying to sell me something when I do answer. I have an interesting lecture to explain that my telephone is for my own convenience for speaking with friends and family - not a free for all advertising tool for all and everyone who want's to sell me something.

@Adaydreambeliever - You don't work for the Inland Revenue do you? That would explain why I can never get through! But you're right - like you I'm usually too busy to answer the phone. Leave a message on the answerphone and I'll talk to you at my convenience, rather than yours. Better still, email me.

You put that so well :) I never take calls at work either.. unless they are family and only if it's urgent. Oh and i am even worse than that.. when i was dating and meeting people and they tried to call me.. I would say.. you don't have permission to call me, you must ask first if it's ok to ring me :P I am not mean but I am often just really busy and dont have time

I agree. And you don't owe anyone an explanation for something that is none of their business.
