I Saw A Funny Thing

About 8 years ago I worked as a cab driver in a small uk town , after a late night drop off in a country Lane , I was bursting for a quick wee , I walked round and open the passenger door to Shield myself from a wind blow back , at this point all was well , and returned to drive and do a couple more local jobs , but knew I was off to France the following morning.
On arrival at the ferry port I was pulled over for a random vehicle check , by customs , I step out the the car , and stood calmly while the officer briefly took a look inside , he all of a sudden called my over and pointed at the foot well of my car , to my total surprise , there was two large hedgehogs nestled down asleep .
Obviously I was not in any trouble for harbouring fugitives , but felt guilty they were now 50 miles from there home land , as it was late autumn , the customs officer asked how long I was going to Europe for , I told him only 4 days , so he got a box and some shredded paper and place the two prickly guy in there and said I could collect them on my return and drop them off at the quite lane I obviously picked them up hitchhikeing lol

@SW-User I think a high bank or hedgerow, close to the door opening , the car was warm

Did you manage to take them back to their home area happily?

I once saw one wandering about in broad daylight - unusual behaviour for hedgehogs, and someone suggested to me that it have been ill in some way.

So, the hedgehogs slipped into your car, unbeknownst to you, while you were urinating?
