I Escaped Jehovah's Witness Cult But Healed Slowly After

I've never been in the JWs. But I have heard a lot of bad things about them and right now, I am trying to persuade a close friend not to become involved with them. They got to her right after her husband died and she was lonely.

What would be so different with them than being a Christian it's al.ost the same

@Letsnotplaytogether9696: I am not a theologian so I won't try to go after the many differences in Scriptural interpretation. But I do know, from people who have been in it, and from what I have read, it operates like a cult; they isolate people from family and friends, enforce customs and rules not mentioned by Jesus, take a lot of money if you have it and pressure people to lead highly restrictive lives. It is not a good place to be, in my opinion, and I am hoping my friend will see the light.

@greenmountaingal: it's been a while like 11 years my ex wife is involved in it

@Letsnotplaytogether9696: No insult intended. But I guess I just don't like that they got to my friend right after her husband of 49 years had died and they "love bombed" her. She is a Christian who is usually very down to earth and sensible. And I admit I am a bit guilty about not visiting her recently (I've been seriously ill and have moved 4 times in a year and a half with no help.) She lives 200 miles away and until recently, I was too sick to drive further than a couple of miles. I am getting ready to go and see her in a few weeks. Still unpacking from my last move.

@greenmountaingal: Our organization do not take money from anyone. The only money we get is the one contributed to us through optional donations from our brothers and sisters. We never ask for money for services, the priests are not paid for talking about God's word and all of our literature is completely free of charge. We are not a cult, we do not perform rituals nor do we take part of anything occult as that is strictly forbidden according to the biblical scriptures. We follow the bible strictly and we do not sway away from it's core message. Our interpretations of the biblical scriptures are different than the ones from other christian organizations, and that is nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to different religions. As an example, there are a lot of different denominations within christianity, all of these ones differs more or less from each other. We believe that our interpretations is the correct one. Also, we do not isolate people from their families and friends. How do you even think we'd have the ability to do that? You got to stop believing rumors.

There's absolutely nothing you have to fear.
Your friend is finding the light at the moment for a very good reason, don't attempt to hinder her, but instead try to understand what she finds appealing.
