I Like Rural Living

Even in winter, now we have a half meter of snow and some roads are blocked, even when you have a 4x4 it's still hard to leave home, but even when we can, it's cosy in house with the burning wood stove.
The only thing what sucks a bit is electricity cuts, we had three already today, last year once for two complete days and a few years ago once three weeks
Luckily we have a generator as well, because just reading a book by candle light, ore doing other stuff sucks, and no wifi sounds romantic, but it is a nightmare in 2017, even to me 😂

I think I could do ok even without electricity as long as I had a little light .maybe solar charge some by day use at night. And a few puzzle books . To take up the times you just can't get outside. I like crossword and sudoko . I've been without power for two weeks once thankfully we had wood stove for heat .

@Repete When it happens, you become very creative, I can tell you!
Repete · 70-79, M
That I can understand . It's funny how creative you can become when you have to but when you don't have to it's I can't think of any other way @SW-User

that's my world
SW-User
@SW-User Guess so, but guess as well, your world is even more extreme, you live even more isolated!

SW-User
@cloudi You would die here from cold and being bored 😂
cloudi · 36-40, F
@SW-User the first one yes. The bored, hm, if I have interesting company, I wouldn’t! 😜
rottenrobi · 56-60, F
I like the idea of being snowed in and without power. Maybe it just sounds nice, and the reality would suck. Something about slowing down and being unplugged sounds really nice for a few hours. ☺
Beautiful picture.
SW-User
@rottenrobi It has undoubted it's charm, especially when you're prepared and know you defeated nature in a way lol.
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
That's a beautiful picture. Do you find the generator is extremely loud and consumes a lot of gasoline? I was uncomfortable the 5 hours I used one last summer. Got a strange headache, felt perhaps the carbon monoxide was getting into the house.
SW-User
@DanielChristensen That's why I have two, a small one and a bigger one, I place them a bit away from home, that helps a lot, so it's not that noisy.
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@SW-User Do you see the full compliment of stars and colors in the night sky out there in the country? It's been so long for me. I also remember the deafening silence, like a physical presence, silence so broad and deep.
SW-User
@DanielChristensen We do!
In summer when we have guests, they are always exited by the clear sky and the amount of stars on it!

I lived in the country for about 10 years and loved it and now miss it as I live in town. I got stuck at home in a blizzard for a two weeks once while I was there and without power for 5 days. I also had a wood burner and never had a problem. Cooked on a grill outdoors and enjoyed the solitude.
SW-User
@acpguy It has it's charm, no doubt, otherwise I would live in a city as well! 😉
I live in a rural isolated location on a lake in Northern Canada ... I love it for the most part ... except for the social isolation ....
SW-User
@constance Yes, that's a bit the biggest "not so nice" part of it some days, but the freedom what comes with it, outnumbers the less nice parts of it, at least to me 👍
For me too ... if I can get out once in a while ... but after a couple of months get a bit squirrely lol .... then start to spend too much time online in places like this!
SW-User
@constance Sounds familiar to me ! 😂
Repete · 70-79, M
Love your picture we had a 2-3 week power outage a few years ago I loved it as long as you have a wood stove for cooking and heat it's beautiful . I'll take that any day.
SW-User
@Repete It has undoubted it's charm indeed!
SW-User
It almost sounds like you live in another era. I still wouldn't mind trying it if I could live without electricity.
SW-User
@SW-User I agree, I would miss the internet and Netflix! lol
SW-User
@SW-User Netflix can go to hell, as TV does, I kicked TV out last year already 😂
SW-User
@SW-User lol😆 I know I should do that too, but its too hard to give it up.😄
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
As a member of the rural living club I agree!👍
SW-User
@ravenwind43 Haha, good to see I'm not alone in this, and you recognise some parts of it! 👍
YoMomma ·
Our internet went out for four days once lol
SW-User
@YoMomma A real drama eh? 😂

Haha
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Living in the city has spoiled me. lol
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@SW-User It`s certainly not for everyone. Takes mental and physical stamina.
SW-User
@Degbeme I would say, it's more a way of living, some like it, some don't.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@SW-User It`s not only the winters that can be challenging. ;)
Cierzo · M
The picture is great, but having no electricity or wifi sucks.
SW-User
@Cierzo Above all the missing of wifi sucks 😂
twistermind · 51-55, F
Ok. I change it to you for the fucking inflatable castle that all fucking Christmas is by my corner playing all those awful carols over and over again.

Nice pic, btw!
SW-User
@twistermind I know what you mean, we had once a Santa who didn't stop calling "hohoho" every time someone passed by 😂
twistermind · 51-55, F
@SW-User

He’s not gonna bother you this year. 😂
