I Had Or Have To Wear A School Uniform

Grey skirt, white blouse, navy blazer with school badge, white socks or black/navy tights in the winter, black shoes with low heel.

I once wore red tights to school and was told to take them off in the toilet. Bare legs and feet in January is not pleasant 😬

@KatieJ Yes, my shoes were OK, but it was too cold not even to be wearing socks. I hate it that teachers think uniform rules are more important than us being warm and comfortable 😠

@QuietSophie UK teachers like to think they can do as they please, strutting around their little empires like tinpot dictators. If they spent as much time on education as they do on imposing stupid petty rules, we'd have the best educated populace in the world. As it is, they don't even care whether their students can read and write, just so long as they're wearing the right colour socks.

@suzie1960 I agree. School was like a little empire, divorced from the rest of society. PE teachers were the worst as they had a uniform and rules of their own with which they could oppress us 😠

@QuietSophie They have no respect for students' parents, human rights or the law either. The headmaster of my children's school told me quite bluntly that he didn't care what the law said, he made the rules in his school -

@suzie1960 Thanks for the links! I was never a fan of uniform rules. I think they always tended to be harshest on the girls and were abused by sexist pigs 😠

@QuietSophie I disagree, I think they were harsher on boys. As I said in those posts, girls had more freedom of appearance than boys at my children's school.

@suzie1960 At our school we were allowed no make-up and had to leave the lesson to scrub it off if we were wearing any. They were also obsessed by the length of our skirts - had to be between calf and knee height. I remember a girl who persistently wore a skirt a couple of inches too short and she got made to change into her PE shorts. That was ridiculous and completely illogical 😠
