I beg to differ.. I lament the loss of respect generally but I do think kids should be free to express their opinions, to disagree when that's how they feel, and to speak up when things are wrong..AND to joke around... all mine did.. and I wouldn't have had it any other way...

Depends what you mean by "sassy" I find a lot of people can't tolerate sassy females of any age yet the exact same behaviour in a male be they child or adult is somehow completely acceptable.
