The gold grille
After a year and a half of not getting out and later only with a mask it was a treat to attend an outdoor event without a mask. As I was getting ready I wanted to take advantage of the freedom. I remembered my gold grille and tried it after years of not wearing it. The bottoms fit fine and I replaced the liner on the tops. I still liked the look and went with it. Here is the story of how it came to be.
About ten years ago I when I was working full time, it was the first day of work for a new young employee. She was waiting for me when I got there and the first thing I noticed was she had removeable gold grilles on her top and bottom teeth. As I complimented her on the look, she told me that she and her boyfriend made molds for custom fittings and sent them to a lab to be custom fitted grilles. I talked my husband into trying it we ended up in her apartment getting molds for upper and lower grilles. The process consisted of what looked like used molds and ungloved hands in our mouths during the fitting. I wore them to work regularly for over a year. When wearing both the uppers and bottoms, I have a slight lisp, but that didn't bother me. I would tend to eat with them and wear them most of the day and got a few cavities that year but they were minor. It was a lot of fun, got a lot attention and was good for business. Getting the golds out was like discovering a forgotten toy. I'll get back into them for a while again. They were expensive and I wouldn't mind getting a little more mileage out of them.
