I Live In Maryland

My Beloved Maryland..... As the daughter of a service man (Air Force, to be exact), I lived in Maryland for a short time, while a toddler...in fact, my recently deceased sister was born here.  But after we moved, as all military families do, I never set foot in Maryland again...until March of 2010.  When I first came here, winter was still hanging on, after a humongous snow storm....snow stayed on the ground from the same storm for WEEKS!!  LOL!  Having lived the majority of my life either in the South or in warm climes, I thought Maryland was frigid and unwelcoming.  And then came spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fell in love with my new home, and former plans to hurry back to Georgia were forgotten...I was, and still am, entranced by her beauty!!  I still marvel at the gorgeous scenery all around me every time I go outside my house...even in the middle of the city, you can see her beautiful mountains in the background.  I AM a transplanted Marylander....but one that is so very proud to be one!!!  I hope to never have to live elsewhere!!!

Hi lonesurvivor. My son recently returned from a trip to the USA and tells me that most of the people he met there were friendly, open minded, warm hearted and honest people who are not racist, do not cary guns and are not interested in illicit drugs (with the possible exception of marijuana) and for the most part was very much like Australia where we live (apart from the obvious fact that the USA is a lot bigger). So did he just get lucky? I suppose there is crime and violence everywhere if you go looking for it which he usually does not. I do not understand why most Americans I meet seem to harbour a grudge about their own country. Do you?

I believe it is fostered by design. This country is a hotbed of violence, hatred, racism and division. Better to have the populace busy with those things than actually paying attention to what is happening to our so called democracy. It saddens me and confirms my doubts about the humanity of human beings. For the most part, casual acquaintance with our citizens is a positive experience, but just beneath the surface rages all the idiocy you described.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

lonesurvivor I suppose it exists downunder too if you go looking for it which I do not. It seems to me that people are at their best in a crisis, and whether it be fire or rain I see much that confirms my hope in human potential. There is enough natural disaster in this country to keep people off the streets at night, even Christmas day for that matter. Fire and rain never take a holiday. Thanks for your reply.

PS. This great southern land of ours has a 24/7 news channel that is rated A, D, S, V, H. It can be found online at www.abc.net.au/news/abcnews24/
If anyone wants Disneyland I suggest they try Florida.

I agree. The seasons seem to pass quickly in hind sight. All of them provide something wonderful for the senses. Then there's the proximity to beaches, mountains, culture and entertainment.

But the politics here are quite frustrating.
