I Believe People Misunderstand Mental Illness

It has been suggested for almost 50 years that mental illness is nothing more than wrong minded thinking. When you 'think'about it many have different idea's about different things. What's right, what's wrong, what should and should be done with this or that. If there's no agreement certain comments are made by ones that think their idea's are right and will call the other person crazy or out of their mind or mentally ill.

If we all can agree that we all deserve the same love and respect that others get than things start to change in the minds of everyone.

Greed and power have taken over the minds of some. Could they be the truly mentally ill? I wonder.

Don't know about being delusional, but one thing most people never deal with is the fact that our memories, which most people think of as set in stone, are extremely malleable and actually change over time because of the way they're stored in the brain.

Except when you;re talking about outright delusion, a lot of what we currently believe is mental illness would have been normal at other times and places.

Agreed, Chipmunk. I love to visit places and people after years and years and think: this isn't who or what I remember.

a lot of mental illness is brain wiring and brain chemistry and the brain gets wired both before and after birth.

@ MRLOVERLYDAY -- as Dr Tim once said, "Oh pretty paisley horsie, heigh ho Electric Blue and away....."

It's just another variance of the idea that "if I can't or won't fix it, then it's not broken".

Remember how the old "sudden acceleration syndrome" manifested by some auto manufactures was dismissed as drivers pushing the wrong pedal? It wasn't. A lot of suffering has happened while others claim it's "all in your head."
LSD is the way forward
yup i think lol

That's true Chip. We are living in this time. Was it Einstein that said: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insanity.
I hope that as brain imaging of various sorts are becoming easier and less intrusive to use, we can understand more about mental illness.

I guess we're all delusional then? How can I be wrong when it feels so right... :) lol
