I Believe People Misunderstand Mental Illness

This Sunday a young woman had a meltdown during the sermon. I know she has anxiety, but I don't think her behaviour can be explained by that disorder alone. I'd guess bipolar or borderline personality. I also know something about how heavily her views of about residential schools (Canadian thing) and the church's treatment of homosexuals weighs on her. I don't blame white guilt or heterophobia--this was 95% good old mental illness.

I wonder if the difference between immaturity and mental illness is obvious. In fact, when I first when to that church, I identified her as a bipolar teen. First of all, she was very petite, so I estimated her age at 13 (she was about 19) and I found her thinking to be very sophomoric, befitting a 13-year-old. I'd like to say she's just a slow-starter and she's got plenty of time to catch up, but at 21, the help she needs is much more intervening.
