I Read the Newspaper

https://www.straitstimes.com/opinion/hk-protests-the-mask-i-wear-on-weekends

The writer talks about being in a parallel universe, of being a normal office worker in the weekday and then putting on her mask on weekends to attend protests on the streets. The mask grants a protective anonymity that also, in an egalitarian way, unites everyone else in their love for HK.

How many of us live in a parallel universe? This dissonance - between what is and what should be, between duty and dreams, between the lived life and the inspired life - happens to not just a few, but to many, I think. And that's why we are on SW, behind our masks, behind the keyboard typing away. We try to reconcile these tensions in our lives, and we do so quietly every single day. Can there be any better reason to write, to create, to do the things we do, other than to make living less painful and more bearable?

That's what friends and family are, or should be, for. They are people with whom we can show who we are as a whole, unlike we do at work.

Sometimes those relatives or friends are not there, and thankfully there are online places like this one where the distance between our public and private self is blurred.

@novembermoon To true friends we should...if they are really friends.
