The writer talks about being in a parallel universe, of being a normal office worker in the weekday and then putting on her mask on weekends to attend protests on the streets. The mask grants a protective anonymity that also, in an egalitarian way, unites everyone else in their love for HK.
How many of us live in a parallel universe? This dissonance - between what is and what should be, between duty and dreams, between the lived life and the inspired life - happens to not just a few, but to many, I think. And that's why we are on SW, behind our masks, behind the keyboard typing away. We try to reconcile these tensions in our lives, and we do so quietly every single day. Can there be any better reason to write, to create, to do the things we do, other than to make living less painful and more bearable?
