I Will Take As Many Words As I Want To Write This Story

Wednesday Night Jazz Interlude with Big Cid and Ed #1

This is just a short set, as it should be for midweek. But I must admit the joke is on you as much as it is me!

In truth Ed HAD no say so in this show and to that I blame the bird. No, not Charlie Parker but the carrier pigeon I used to get his feedback. Which is a shame as I would like to have his take on this.

It is also a shame as I used a reliable company, “Jeff J’s Pigeon Carrier service and other weird and asinine shit, ltd.” I’m sure you are all aware of them. All Ed had to do was shove a piece of paper in the bird’s mouth and send it back to me at Big Cid77 enterprises and I would do the rest. Maybe next time…

So Edward-- The first TWO selections are what you would have chose, the last two mine.

Maybe next Wednesday I’ll use rail car instead???

STOP LAUGHING, Y’ALL!!!!!! You all are MEAN! lol

Great selection, Edward. Sonny Terry in a backup role hardly ever disappoints. This 1962 recording has a 1956-57 feel to it. Bebop as it began to include Free Jazz?

John Coltrane? Edward, you are FIRST CLASS! (Even though I picked yours this week…)

I must say Central Park west is more than likely one of Coltrane’s 10 best efforts. I was never a fan of “My Favorite Things” or an other selection when he tried PURPOSELY to appease white audiences. He was best being himself!

Now on to my two—

Actually I am going to stick with John in my pick and go back before he recorded for Atlantic to ‘Blue Train”, one of his best LP’s. This is him on the Impulse label-and I see it was recently remastered and provided, legally by Universal! I have the LP and in my younger years I loved it. It is very introspective. “Blue” was a great theme for John.

It is here I end this but not with a sax this time, but rather with the piano of the great Bill Evans. This ends this on a rather somber, pensive and wistful note (no pun untended) It offers romance, or a chance at it, and it speaks of the myriad of feelings a heart CAN FEEL while in-and out-of love. The Bill Evans Trio was one of the most “in demand” acts of mid-late 50’s and into the 60’s.

That brings this to a close . I hope this was a sweet respite for your Wednesday evening. If there is interest-and I can get ED to reply–A– HEM!!! I may do this next week.

Cid out.

Wonderful as always, 🎶😍sorry it's taken me so long to respond. 🥴 All kinds of people are asking me to read stuff and sending me links. Oh! I see below that I DID respond to this link?! 🤪 I need to go to bed....💤
@Peaches Glad you did reply again. It gets lonely here! Besides it is good music.

@Elandra77 I KNOW! 😟 There are so many people here that are feeling ignored, and I wish I could reach out to them all but I just don't have the time. 😔💕💙

Very much enjoyed all of the selections, especially the Coltrane recordings. I also agree with your take on "My Favorite Things". Not one of Coltrane's best efforts.
@Rutterman Coltrane is one of the best Jazz ever had! As far as technique I don't believe there was better saxophonist when he was alive. His legacy is still strong.

I have the "My Favorite Things" Lp and some songs are fine but as an LP it fails as well as the song. He just tried to hard to appease a base that already liked him.

I love me a little jazz once in a while. 😉🎶🎺
@Peaches I agree. Jazz can be fun. I tried to make this FUN for two selections and more pensive ans refelctful for two as well. Jazz requires us to THINK a bit to fully appreciate it.
