I Will Take As Many Words As I Want To Write This Story

The End Days

Hello , my friend. Before I continue know that I am not long for this world. It is not a fate I accept but one that we all , inevitably, fall victim to. I can feel the darkness closing around me- it attracts me like dew to grass in the morning. The forces of evil are at work. So what I tell you now is of utmost importance, young one.

So, dear friend, one last time I will ask you to "Stay awhile, and listen”.

Many have long believed me to be the last of the Horadrim. As a young man I grew up on the stories and exploits of the Horadrim long ago. Tales of courage and sacrifice that spurred my young mind -and perhaps help make into the person I am today. To this end my Mother was incongruous. I could feel their voices, ever reaching, ever petulant, calling out to me, to take up the call of the Horadrim and become as one. And so I did. The last of the Horadrim I became. Tristam’s crazy man some called me while they said I talked a good tale. I heard the talk yet the talk only inspired me more to hunt down the lesser evils and Diablo himself. Into the depths of hell I went time and again. A sight I wish I could unsee-but I cannot.

There is but another-and to that you must seek her out. Yes, her, For the last of the Horadrim is not me....

...But my daughter.

The one I left behind at a young age just so she could have some semblance of a normal childhood- one that eluded me. Tyreal, the archangel of Justice can recount the tale as well as I . Seek her out but know that Leah-the one you seek, is indeed my adopted daughter. She too has had her ordeals with the dark forces and Diablo and can aid you in your journeys. Seek her, for me. May Auriel and the High Heavens aid you in that endeavour.

And yet, I feel that as you seek her she seeks you. For when two forces are deemed to be together no forces of the Burning Hells or High Heaven can keep them apart. Look upon her for guidance but understand she is also deigning the same.

Belial, the lord of lies-I can sense his presence. He means to deceive with trickery and deceit. Andarial, the demon that once merged with Diablo and over the reign of anguish comes for me. I must try to get my many decades of research into Leah’s hands for only a true Horadrim will be able to put what I have penned to use.

My friend , I have talked enough.

Remember the tale of old King Leoric? Do not let your mood be soured as such and never fall prey to the impending evils.

Continue on your quest but do not continue alone. Know that I will always be with you in spirit. With Leah by your side you should be a formidable force to any threat of lesser or greater evils.

I leave you, my esteemed listener, in peace and goodwill. I have found our time together to be both rewarding and pleasing. It is something I shall miss. Fear not for my soul for the Horadrim view death differently than you may.

Leave me… in peace. My time is nigh and it approaches with utmost haste.

May the High Heavens bless you on your journey.

Always

Deckard Cain
I almost cried when he died.
@AcidBurn That was....unexpected. i had to walk away from the PC. Yes, Deckard was old but I could not imagine Diablo, the game, going on without him. And I still can't. He is as tied to the game as Diablo is himself!

However I generally reply AS Deckard and I owe you that---

"Esteemed Child, do not weep for me. There are far more much more worthy of heartfelt emotion and tears than I. I ask that you save what you have to give for them for the Burning Hells shall give them no peace.

I regret leaving this world, this plane for so much of my work is unfinished. However I ask you "Is anyone's work ever truly finished". I believe we are seekers and as seekers we always seek to learn and do more. I have sought for so long respite almost seems as welcome pause.

You have found my missive and read it and for that I am thankful. Texts far to often become as lost tomes as they are unread.

May you always walk in the light! "
Wow...such an intriguing tale of mystery!!! Love it....😍
@Elandra77 wow!! I always knew you were a class apart....I'd love to dip my head in your knowledge pool and drink a sip of that unknown that so appeals to this nomad ancient!!! 😍😘
@Vivaci I'd like that. The wanderer in you and in I.
@Elandra77 I did enjoy your comments as I read it again. There was no need of translation ....though I must say you have quite the talent when it comes to prose! 😏

@SW-User Thank You! I loved writing this and I could write as Deckard Cain in a heartbeat! I really did love the piece but I hated how I had to end it. I cried. A lot-and yet they were my words! Still do when I read it for what is Diablo without Deckard Cain? I wanted it to be the sweetest goodbye an old man could give.

I believe I accomplished that.
