I Admire Marilyn Monroe

No personage of celebrity status, past or present, has ever fascinated me in life, or in death, more than that of Marilyn Monroe.

Born Norma Jean Baker on June 1st, 1926, she had a tough life growing up.

Her mother, Gladys Pearl Baker, due to psychiatric issues that occurred, was committed to a sanitarium and was thus, unable to care for her daughter.

Her Father remains unknown to this day.

Norma Jean, throughout her childhood, spent her time in and out foster families and orphanages.

In the mid to late 1940's, she began her career as a photographic model and eventually an actress, taking lessons at the famed Actors Studio under the tutelage of Lee and Paula Strasberg and soon changed her name to Marilyn Monroe, where she got minor roles in films like Dangerous Years, Ladies of the Chorus, Clash by Night, All About Eve and As Young As you Feel.

During the 1950's, she landed major roles in such films as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and There's No Business Like Show Business.

But it was the 1955 film, The Seven Year Itch, that would soon become her most memorable, as it had one of the most iconic scenes in the history of cinema, where Marilyn's skirt get blown in the errant updraft of a subway vent.

Her later films were Bus Stop, Some Like it Hot, and The Misfits.

In 1962, she was the lead role of a planned remake of the the 1940 film, My Favorite Wive, under the working title, Something's Got To Give.

Unfortunately, this film was never completed, due to Marilyn's constant illness related absences, romantic affairs and eventually, her tragic demise.

Throughout her life and film career, Marilyn also had a checkered love life.

First was a man named James Dougherty, then there were more prolific people that came and went through her love life, like Baseball Star, Joe DiMaggio, author, Arthur Miller and even then president John F. Kennedy and his brother, then Attorney General, Robert F. Kennedy.

In the predawn hours of August 5th 1962, Marilyn Monroe was found dead of barbiturate poisoning.

While many believe it was a suicide, there are others who contend that she was murdered.
