Based on your experience, is Toastmasters worth it?

I am highly anxious and nervous when it comes to public speaking. I’d like to recognize my employees with awards for all the wonderful things they do, but the awards ceremony is 300 people strong. I refuse to let my fears get in the way of giving them the recognition they deserve. Is toastmasters the way to go or is there something better out there?

I can teach u what u need to know except for the practice part.
@Human1000 thanks! Do you have any tips for a first timer having to speak in front of a group that large?
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@DecafD Yes, prepare and practice hearing your voice, and memorize the first few lines. Then practice in front of people. Can be a few just so u are familiar with the experience.

You will have an initial adrenaline rush. It will pass.

Note cards are okay to bring up, but try not to use them when you practice.
@Human1000 thank you so much! These are all wonderful suggestions.

So even when you are experienced at public speaking, that adrenaline that I could actually just be mistaking for anxiety never actually goes away? So that’s normal for everyone?

@DecafD I've been told by an experienced speaker that she still gets butterflies when starting a speech

@DecafD Yes, totally normal. Also, the crowd is with you. Smiling works, too! The adrenaline will go down. You can even have fun with it once it settles.
@Human1000 this makes me feel better already!

@DecafD glad to help!
