Based on your experience, is Toastmasters worth it?

I am highly anxious and nervous when it comes to public speaking. I’d like to recognize my employees with awards for all the wonderful things they do, but the awards ceremony is 300 people strong. I refuse to let my fears get in the way of giving them the recognition they deserve. Is toastmasters the way to go or is there something better out there?

Try it. I participated in a few via zoom. Going to the first in person meeting next week. Like you, I have big goals, and I'm not gonna let anxiety get in the way. I no longer have a fear of public speaking since I've done many speeches, in class, at church, and internship, and because you can practice what you'll say over and over. My issue is meeting new people and the anxiety that comes with it.
Good luck to you
@rosyhills thanks so much! Glad that you no longer have a fear of this.

@DecafD just of speeches, cause you get to practice before you present.
If only I could practice meeting new people over and over lol
@rosyhills haha yeah I’m actually doing this now and what I didn’t realize is that the other person 8/10 times more nervous than I am. Like today I had to be the one that kept the conversation going and I never imagined that would happen- that it would always be the other person that’s more extroverted than I’ll ever be.
Show them the respect they deserve, without them you'd be washing cars in a thong.
@checkoutanytime LOLLLLL there’s no question I’m going to do this….pay the respect I meant…def not the car thing haha. I just need the next steps so I can prepare.
@DecafD you are on top of your game, just keep in touch with reality, is all I'm trying to project to you.

I've been thinking of doing this too...I loved it at school but have developed stupid anxiety habits that I'm determined to overcome
@SW-User thank you. Someone else said this as well, that how I see myself is why I believe other people see me this way as well.
SW-User
@DecafD exactly, it's your perception of you not theirs!!

@SW-User do it. My first day is next week

I'm sorry I don't know anything about toastmasters. I believe that some are just terrified of standing in front of a crowd.

Pretend you are a politician and hire a speech writer
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
I can teach u what u need to know except for the practice part.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@DecafD Yes, totally normal. Also, the crowd is with you. Smiling works, too! The adrenaline will go down. You can even have fun with it once it settles.
@Fukfacewillie this makes me feel better already!

@DecafD glad to help!

It is very helpful, you should try it.

@DecafD no there wasn’t pressure. There was homework. It was all really good information. I didn’t have to pay as my employer paid for it.
@iamonfire696 ahh that’s a good point! I could probably ask my company to cover me for this- didn’t even think of that. Thank you!!

@DecafD You are welcome.
