Support for Medicare for All increased in 2020 to 63%; Medical costs a major reason for declaring bankruptcy

[i]Pew Research Center, Sept. 28, 2020

"Among the public overall, 63% of U.S. adults say the government has the responsibility to provide health care coverage for all, up slightly from 59% last year. Roughly a third (37%) say this is not the responsibility of the federal government, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted July 27 to Aug. 2 among 11,001 adults."

"A new study from academic researchers found that 66.5 percent of all bankruptcies were tied to medical issues —either because of high costs for care or time out of work. An estimated 530,000 families turn to bankruptcy each year because of medical issues and bills, the research found.
"Two-thirds of people who file for bankruptcy cite medical issues as a key contributor to their financial downfall."

Biden has always opposed Medicare. Though he doesn't seem to mind buying bombs for Israel.

Since Nixon. It's 🐝 about two thirds of the voters since Nixon.
Rich doctors are opposed.

Health care is an interesting rabbit hole. The primary reason given for the high cost is insurance companies. Insurance companies pay more, so hospitals charge more, so insurance goes up, so insurance can pay more... It also works the inverse, but this is often why a hospital will reduce a bill significantly if you pay out of pocket.
medicare for all will cost almost 60 trillion dollars over a decade. it will start with a 4% tax increase for everyone and when they find it underfunded taxes will rise accordingly. be careful what you wish for

@saragoodtimes Every advanced country in the world has some form of universal medical care. They don't have any problem with it, why should the U.S.?

With Medicare for All, administrative costs will be much less, drug prices will be much lower, and people will not be forced into bankruptcy and loose their house because they can't pay their medical bills. And providing affordable healthcare for all would make the U.S. a less callous, less cruel place to live.

@saragoodtimes you're paying more not to do it.
@badminton when funding for medicare for all runs into a shortfall the only way to make it up will be patients paying a higher deductible. look at how Obamacare started and now at the high deductibles being paid by both medicare and private insured patients. hospitals and doctors will see payments cut to about a third of current rates closing some hospitals and seeing doctors give up practice. my husband doesn't need to be a doctor to survive very well even if he closed his practice
