It depends on the kind of relation between the businesses or people. I worked in tech support for a while and at some point the whole "Dear Sir/Madam" gets old especially when all you wanna say is that they can log in again or something like that.

@GermanAf: It's honestly incredibly condescending. It's like a false appology for being incharge or something, and it's rude. You wanna take point, then take it. Don't start off with some fancy vernacular because you think it's chill. If we're chill, then you don't have to worry about it.
