What smell sends your mind right back to childhood?

Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Certain disinfectants. The smell reminds me of school.
That and cabbage. Every school hade the aroma of cabbage.

Lavender and Lilley of the valley.
A lot of the older generation when I was very young used to wear these scents.

Petrol. My Dad owned a van and us kids would sit in the back. There seemed a constant smell of it.

Paraffin. Back in the days before we had central heating we had Paraffin fires all over the house during the winter.
Same with coal or coke open fires.
Lost count of the times the wind would howl down the chimney and fill the place with the smell of soot.

I don't think the schools have cabbage anymore.
We also had paraffin heaters, the smell is distinct. @Picklebobble2

The smell of freshly made tortillas

Wow, I would never have heard of those as a child@calicuz
@calicuz That’s so cool. A friend’s grandmother made them, along with homemade tamales and their kitchen always smelled so good ! 🤤

The smell of burning wood in the fireplace, and the smell of the unisex perfume CK one.☺

My mum used to wear 'Charlie' and would spray it just before she got in the car. I always got travel sick and that smell (wherever I smelt it) would remind me of sickness. @Indy74
Indy74 · 46-50, F
@pennynoodles I always hated the smell of Charlie. Not my style. I can see where you're coming from.🙂👍️

My mother’s perfume: Woodhue. And onions cooking. My grandmother’s advice to her five daughters was, “If you’re not sure what to make for dinner, fry some onions while you make up your mind. No one will even notice if you don’t serve them, but it smells like something good is happening.”
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Ha ha, how funny@Floridian

I used to play for hours with the freshly cut grass. I would design houses on the field. @SW-User
The smell of the ocean. Reminds me of standing in line to go back into class. They always made us line up, and our school was near the Bay; you could hear the foghorn some days and smell the water.
